In this post, I take you inside my revision process, with a focus on tightening sentences, enhancing narrative tension, and ensuring character consistency.

Using a scene with protagonist, Eve, at a hairdresser, the narrative showcases interactions that reveal social tensions and personal privacy challenges in a small town.

In a screen share I take you through the scene, highlighting the importance of refining character traits and plot points, provide copy-editing tips and … inviting you to submit your work for feedback.

Top revision tips:

  • Get rid of any words and phrases that aren’t adding new details

  • Look out for repetition of words and phrases within a scene

  • Have a mix of action, description, dialogue and interiority
